Updates

UPDATE 9 March, 2021:
The Oval is CLOSED FOR THE SEASON.
It's been a great year for skating, even in the midst of the pandemic. We especially want to thank our amazing volunteers who made it possible for you to skate. We thank everyone who donated and purchased merchandise, and who bought tickets for the Candlelight Skate. Your contributions help maintain the Oval and go towards improvements. Thank you to everyone who came out to skate!
J.R.R. Tolkien said, “If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.” We think if he'd known about the Oval, he'd of added 'skating,' too!
Until next winter, stay well and enjoy food, cheer, and song. ⛸🍁⛸

UPDATE Feb. 25, 2021
Good News: The intensive scraping and flooding efforts this morning by the ice crew have significantly helped restore the ice surface from its damaged state. We can confirm that Friday evening's Candlelight Skate is still a go!

Bad News: The Oval will remain CLOSED today and tomorrow. We're hoping that together the multiple CLOSED signs, the barricade of benches, and the Plow Truck situated at the gate will be enough to convince people to stay off the property.

We've also arranged for volunteers to regularly drop by today and tomorrow to monitor the site. We welcome any community members who can help in this regard between now and Friday evening. Contact us on FB or email info@ontariospeedskatingoval.com.

Thank you for your continued support,
The Ice Crew
UPDATE Feb. 23, 2021
The Oval is CLOSED. Warmer temperatures and wet snow have forced us to close for a couple of days. Check back with us on Thursday (Feb 25) for a new update.
NOTE: Footprints (and paw prints) in the snow on the track create enormous amounts of damage. It is important to stay off the ice track during this time to maintain the ice's quality.

Update 8 Jan 2021
UPDATE: The Oval Ice Crew flooded the track on Thursday and Friday. Today, they brought out the Zamboni (the first time this season) to scrape the ice for a smoother skating surface.
Unfortunately, the sunny weather on Friday created some softer sections. So, we can't say for sure right now if skating can begin on Saturday. The Ice Crew will visit the Oval first thing tomorrow morning (Saturday), and we'll update you at 10 a.m.
Thank you for your patience. Stay well...

Update 4 Jan 2021
Our ice crew has been working hard to get the ice in stateable shape. They're out again today flooding. It's always a process each season and may seem even more so this year because of the Covide-19 lockdown. We appreciate your patience.

In the meantime, please stay off the track when the Oval is CLOSED. The opening is DELAYED when we have to stop to scrape and fill footprints and dog prints. As always: No Dogs Allowed on the track -- there are lots of other places to walk your dog.

Thank you for your cooperation.
